Public Policy Assistant Professor Shiri Breznitz will be Visiting Professor at the University of Turino in Italy for the 2012-2013 academic year.
She was awarded a competitive fellowship from the Collegio Carlo Alberto in collaboration with the university. Breznitz will be researching the definition of clusters, in particular, she will collaborate with colleagues from around the world to conduct multiple case studies of industrial clusters in Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK. Breznitz was also awarded, but declined a visiting fellowship at the Said Business School in Oxford.
Abstract
Sebastian Thrun recently left Stanford University and started Udacity. Udacity is an online university that seeks to reach the 99% of the world population presently excluded from high-quality higher education. The first class on Artificial Intelligence, which was offered in conjunction with Stanford, attracted 160,000 students, of which 23,000 graduated with Stanford-level qualifications. The speaker will discuss his experience with traditional forms of education, and speculate on what higher education may look like in the digital age.

This summer the College of Computing is offering a course involving the development of mobile applications and the impact of mobile computing. This course is meant for non-computing majors and does not have any pre-requisites. Students will use App Inventor for Android (a visual programming language) to create prescribed applications (plus a final project application of their choosing).
