Public Policy Student Awarded Eben Tisdale Fellowship

Tyler “TJ” Kaplan, a fourth year undergraduate student in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts School of Public Policy, has been awarded the Eben Tisdale Public Policy Fellowship.
The fellowship consists of a $5,000 grant and a full-time, eight week public policy internship in Washington, DC with a high-tech company, firm or trade association, and weekly issues seminars hosted by Tisdale sponsors.

Craig Mundie to speak at Georgia Tech-October 27th 6PM

Mark your calendars for next Thursday, Oct. 27, when Craig Mundie—two-time Georgia Tech alumnus and chief research and strategy officer for Microsoft—will deliver the John P. Imlay Jr. Distinguished Lecture on “Converging Worlds: The New Era in Computing.” The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 6 p.m. in the College of Management’s LeCraw Auditorium.

GT Public Policy Community -  Liam Rattray’s father sent this message and asked us to share.  With the consent of his family, we’ll be organizing an appropriate Georgia Tech remembrance after students and faculty return in August.

Liam Rattray: Tragic Loss

Dear Public Policy students, faculty and staff. It is with a heavy heart we have to share with you that Liam Rattray, a 2011 BS highest honors graduate of the GT Public Policy program, was killed Monday night by a drunk driver. Liam was known around campus as an excellent student, a tireless researcher, and a passionate advocate of sustainable urban life.

BSPP Alum named Marshall Scholar

Recent Georgia Tech Public Policy (and ISYE) alumnus Nick Wellkamp has been named a Marshall Scholar and will attend the University of Oxford to pursue a master’s degree in economics. Wellkamp was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, plans on pursuing a doctorate as well. “It’s a tremendous honor and a dream come true,” said Wellkamp. “The chance to study at Oxford will be exciting, challenging and intellectually enriching. PUBP alum Wellkamp wins Marshall

Nick Wellkamp, who graduated from Georgia Tech in 2009 with a 4.0 GPA and majors in ISYE and Public Policy, has won the Marshall Scholarship.  One of only forty students in the US to achieve this honor, Nick intends to use the Marshall to attend Oxford University to study for a master’s and PhD in Economics.

An IAC alum, who had developed a strong interest in public health issues in her senior year, recently graduated from Harvard’s Master in Public Health program and is now working at the National Cancer Institute/National Institutes of Health. Her job is under the Presidential Management Fellows program, through which students with recent diplomas at the MS or PhD level can work for two years in several federal agencies, developing leadership/ management skills, organizational knowledge, professional contacts, etc. It’s a great program, and BSPP students thinking about grad school …
