Admission

eorgia Tech's two Ph.D. programs are highly selective. For Fall 2006, we accepted only one in four students. The criteria for admission include not only grades, previous experience, and performance on the Graduate Record Examination, but also the fit of the student's interests and objectives to those of the School. To determine the likelihood of fit, interested parties are encouraged to examine this web site's sections on faculty and research areas, or to contact faculty directly.

Applicants may hold a bachelor's or masters degree in any field. Calculus skills are necessary for the Ph.D. Coursework equivalent to the masters core is required to earn the Ph.D. These courses may be taken at Georgia Tech, but will affect the student's timeline for completion of the program.

Apply through the Georgia Tech Graduate Admissions web site. Students applying to the Joint Ph.D. program with Georgia State should not use the Georgia Tech application, but should instead contact the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State. The documents are due Feb. 1 for Fall semester, which starts in August. Late admission is available (without financial aid) through May 1.

Residency requirement
Georgia Tech regulations require all doctoral students to spend a minimum of two semesters as full-time students.
