esearchers at Georgia Tech’s Wireless Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center received good news last month during testing of their Wireless Emergency Communications (WEC) project. Results indicate that 94 percent of blind and visually impaired test subjects found WEC to be a significant improvement over their current methods of receiving emergency alerts. Full Story

SPP Conference 2007

he School of Public Policy hosted the second Atlanta S&T Policy conference in the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center, October 19-20, 2007. Over 150 attendees from around the country and the world gathered to present and discuss their latest research on the challenges and opportunities for innovation in the changing global economy. National and regional innovation systems, innovative clusters, global collaboration, networks and knowledge flows, creative environments, graduate education and career pathways were all examined. The conference is a biennial event and the next one is planned for fall 2009. View Conference Site

arilyn A. Brown, Professor in the School of Public Policy is now a Nobel Laureate! Marilyn was part of Working Group III of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The Nobel Peace Prize for 2007 was awarded jointly to Al Gore and the IPCC. Full Story

he Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) announced today that it has selected the GEORGIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY as the research partner for the 2007 State of the Industry: Technology in Georgia Report. Specifically, they will be working with Susan Cozzens (School of Public Policy) and Jan Youtie (Enterprise Innovation Institute), who will be providing the raw data and some of the analysis that will be used to comprise the report. Phil Shapira

ecent research into the environmental fate of carbon nanotubes has underscored what until now has been a little-discussed aspect of nanotechnology – its potential societal implications. To evaluate those implications and inform the resulting public policy debate, researchers at Georgia Tech have joined with colleagues at six other U.S. institutions to form the Center for Nanotechnology in Society. The air dates were November 6 and November 8. Berry appeared in the first half of the show. The show should air again during December or January.
