Research:

I am interested in extracting usable information from Curriculum Vitae. The challenges arise in that formatting of CV content is not consistent (e.g., publications, education, work experience). We have explored use of our VantagePoint text mining software to assist our Research Value Mapping colleagues process CV data. We are currently working on NSF proposal references. Further tool development is needed to make our interactive importing more facile. The payoff would be great in terms of human resource analyses. For instance, information gleaned from CVs more expeditiously could greatly enhance analyses of cross-disciplinary interchanges and social networking. In addition, one could imagine using such capabilities to enhance personnel decisions per se.
