Faculty in the Study of Human Resources in Science and Technology approach
the study of workers and the workplaces of science and technology with inter-
and multi-disciplinary backgrounds spanning city and regional planning,
philosophy, political science, psychology, public administration, sociology,
science/technology studies, and women’s studies.
Faculty’s research addresses key issues of:
- Education and training in science and technology: university-high school
partnerships; structure and evolution of engineering curricula; ethics
in engineering education; laboratory learning and cognition; programs
for participation and performance.
- Scientific and technological workforce: labor markets; career patterns
and pathways; gender, race/ethnicity, and their implications for science/technology;
network analyses; comparative, cross-national studies; measurement of
research performance.
- Organizational contexts of workers and the workplaces: work conditions
and processes in universities, research laboratories, and interdisciplinary
centers.
- Organization and impact of scientific knowledge: creative capacities
and innovation in research.
- Policies and practices for sustained human resources of science and
technology.
