Leadership Certificate

Certificate

Submitted by the School of Public Policy leadership coordinator Dr. Phillip M. Thompson

I. Leadership Certificate Objectives

The objective of the leadership certificate is to assist students in becoming skilled, ethical, and visionary leaders. The leadership certificate is awarded through the School of Public Policy, but it is interdisciplinary in its pedagogy and course requirements. In these classes, students will develop the ability to analyze the social, political, economic, cultural, global, and technical dimensions of a wide array of leadership issues. The leadership certificate is recognition that a student has acquired specialized knowledge of leadership theory, key skills such as teamwork and communication, and the ability to apply and refine their knowledge and skills in a leadership internship.

III. Certificate Requirements

Students enrolled in the certificate program will have their program of study approved and monitored by the Leadership Certificate coordinator. They must meet all requirements for the certificate and their undergraduate degree before the awarding of the certificate.

The certificate follows Institute and internal guidelines that include the following:

1. Courses required by name and number in a student’s major degree program may not be used in satisfying the course requirements for a minor/certificate. However, courses used in a certificate may also be used to fulfill elective requirements (free electives, technical electives, etc.) in the student's major degree program.

2. A course may not be counted toward more than one minor and/or certificate.

3. Courses such as INTA 2030 that are in more than one area can only count as one of the elective classes.

4. All courses counting toward the minor/certificate must be completed in residence at Georgia Tech, be taken on a letter-grade basis, and be completed with a grade of C or better.

5. The Leadership Certificate in Public Policy requires (12) semester credits of which at least nine (9) are 3000 level courses or above.
